Roberts, Oral

Evangelista estadounidense. Hijo de un predicador pentecostal, en 1935 tuvo una experiencia de conversión. Se desempeñó doce años como pastor en varios pueblos sureños y estableció su propia organización, la Iglesia de la santidad pentecostal. Estudió en el Colegio Baptista de Oklahoma (1943–45), donde se hizo metodista. Argumentando una comunicación directa con Dios, a finales de 1940 comenzó su ministerio itinerante de sanación por fe. La Asociación evangelista Oral Roberts, con sede en Tulsa, Okla., se convirtió en la organización guía para otras iniciativas, entre ellos una casa editorial, y Roberts se hizo conocido por su lujoso estilo de vida. Desde la década de 1950, concitó la atención de grandes audiencias a través de la radio y televisión. En 1963 fundó la Universidad Oral Roberts en Tulsa y a comienzos del s. XXI ha continuado su vínculo con la universidad, desempeñándose como rector de la misma.
